Alex C. Willingham, M.D.
Medical Director
Alex Willingham, M.D., brings over 35 years of physical medicine and rehabilitation expertise. He has served as the Medical Director at several inpatient rehabilitation hospitals across San Antonio. Dr. Willingham is the President and Co-founder of Rehabilitation Professional Consultants, Inc., and the President of South Texas Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Group. Previously, Dr. Willingham was a program surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), through which he surveyed rehabilitation hospitals and facilities in the United States and Puerto Rico.
He also served as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio from 1988 until 2017.
Dr. Willingham was the Chair of the Rehabilitation Section Committee of the Texas Medical Association, and he has authored and co-authored articles and scientific papers concerning a variety of physical medicine and rehabilitation topics and life care planning. He is a frequent guest speaker and presenter for numerous healthcare education symposiums for medical professionals and support groups for survivors of brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and amputation. Dr. Willingham often appears on San Antonio radio programs such as “Ask the Doctor” and on CNN, ESPN, CBS, and other national and local television networks.
Dr. Willingham completed medical school at Universidad de Guadalajara with his Residency for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation completed at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
